"True or False"

Mark 8: 34-38

Our passage this Sunday provides the backdrop for the rest of the Gospel as well as the rest of Jesus's earthly ministry. His entire life and purpose of existing has truly led us to this lessen Jesus gives. However, it follows two specific events. The first is Peter's great confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. The second is Peter's refusal to believe that said Lord would suffer, bleed and die a cruel and shameful death on the cross.
Jesus had to get His Disciples to see His Heart and purpose from Heaven before He could get them to see that they also should share the same. He was born to die as a sacrifice for the sins of the world. His Disciples have been called to die to self and sin as a testimony to being one of His Followers.
This brief but fundamental sermon from Jesus is recorded in all 3 of the synoptic Gospels and reflects the Lord's consistent teaching on the character of saving faith and the cost of Discipleship.
True Discipleship is total obedience and submission to Him. False Discipleship is self- satisfaction and serving Him at one's convenience and pleasure. A true follower of Christ says not my will but your Will O Lord.
See you Sunday!

In Christ,
Pastor Todd
