Missions

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations

Matthew 28:19

Decades ago, the pastor of my home church planted a seed that continues to grow, even now. He always said that a church that puts its money, time, talents and energy outward toward others in the areas of missions and ministry will grow and prosper.

I am convinced that one of the reasons Piney Grove has flourished as of late is because of our generosity. We have increased our missions by giving every year since I became the pastor and God has honored it in a mighty way. I am proud to say that the entire church body has supported that effort and made it possible through their faithfulness and generosity for us in 2021 to give over $30,000 to missions and ministry needs.

We support through our church budget the cooperative program of the Southern Baptist Convention. Their offerings are divided up among many institutions and organizations, all of which are geared toward planting churches and winning souls for Christ. We receive in the spring an offering for North American Missions and missionaries. At Christmas, an offering for International Missions and missionaries is taken up. Our largest gift ever has been received this Christmas in 2021. What a blessing! This is, however, just the beginning.

Our budget supports St. Jude's Hospital and the North Carolina Baptist Children's Home. We give to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association for their continued work in spreading the Gospel around the world. We give to disaster relief through North Carolina Baptist Men who travel wherever there is a need. We support sometimes twice a year with a gift between $5,000 and $10,000 each time to the incredible organization of Samaritan's Purse. We also donate shoe boxes each year and may send a group to help pack them at warehouses.

We not only send kids to camp, but we also send them to aid and support the community as needed. This year we gave $3,000 for the building of a handicap access for a family in need. In the years past we have supported prisoners' children at Christmas, helped gather food for food banks, taken supplies to the local schools, and helped families in crisis in our church and in our community. This year's VBS project had our kids make, donate, and install birdhouses at a local nursing home.
Missions is about sharing the love of Jesus with those in need. Whether on a mission trip to Baltimore, Maryland, or at a local store in our community, it is a joy to give a cup of cold water in Jesus' Name.

With the talents and resources of this Body, I can only imagine what might be accomplished for the kingdom in the days to come.
