Holy Week - Part One

The Gospels' writers devoted much of their material to the events leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus. The final week of His earthly ministry began with the triumphal entry into Jerusalem and the "Hosannas" from the crowd that changed to cries of "crucify Him" before the week was over. Jesus apparently spent most of the week teaching in the Temple area during the day. His evenings were spent in the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus in Bethany. Significant events during the week included the plot of the Sanhedrin, Jesus' betrayal by Judas and Jesus' arrest, the mock trial He endured, His journey to Golgotha down the Jerusalem street known today as the Via Dolarasa (way of suffering), His crucifixion and all He endured between the trial and His death, concluding with the triumphant resurrection on the following Sunday morning.

Read Mark 11:1-11
Following the traditional view of His entry on Sunday, all we know He did on Monday was cleanse the Temple in Jerusalem.

Read Mark 11:15-19
I dealt with that account a few weeks ago suggesting that we need to let God clean our House as He did the Temple. We are the temple of the Holy spirit.

Read 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Read 2 Corinthians 6:16-18
I suggest that our Lord was angry because of how the money changers were dealing unfairly and mistreating those who came to worship and make sacrifice. It had become a den of thieves instead of a house of prayer. hen the people heard He was there, the blind and lame came to Him for healing. Upon healing them, they worshiped Him. I emphasized this by saying that our lives/Spiritual houses are to be filled with prayer, power, and praise.

Jesus spent His last week preparing the scene for His departure. His ministry was one of sacrifice and death. He died for you, now He asks you to live for Him.

In Christ,
Pastor Todd
