The Compassion of God

"Variety is the spice of life."

"Change is healthy."

"Spontaneity keeps things fresh."

"A rut is a grave with the ends knocked out."

All true statements I believe. However, fickle, unstable, and inconsistent are not attractive qualities in a person and can torpedo any relationship.

Our God is devoid of capriciousness, injustice, or out-of-control emotions.

Capriciousness is the quality of being subject to or characterized by sudden, unpredictable and accountable changes in attitude or behavior which are often driven by whim or impulse, rather than by reason, logic, or faith.

Caprice often refers to a tendency to make impulsive choices that are impossible to foresee or understand.

Two doctrines of Christianity that we gladly embrace in such a chaotic world are:

1) The impassibility of God - which means He is not driven by emotion or circumstance but by His nature and character.

2) The immutability of God - which means He does not change, relent, or conform to His creation but His creation to Him.

We will celebrate who our God is once again this Sunday as we examine His attributes, along with the fact that He is steadfast and our Rock, He is also compassionate. We will examine primarily the Gospels to see the example Christ gave us of the nature of our Heavenly Father.

But it is "Because of His great love we are not consumed, for His compassions, they fail not."
