"Jesus's Authority and Man's Great Need"

Mark 2:1-12

All three of our synoptic Gospels record this interaction between our Lord and men of faith. That tells us that there is more to this than just a miraculous healing. People of Christ's day believed that it was a person's own sin or the sin of a close relative that caused their misfortune. "Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was struck blind?" the disciples asked about a blind man they encountered. Jesus responded to them by stating: "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him".

Jesus telling this man in our account this week, "Son, your sins are forgiven you", was a sign and a trap for the unbelieving Pharisees and Scribes who were present. Jesus proved that He had all Authority from Heaven. He could meet this crippled man's greatest need. He could provide forgiveness. Decease, disabilities, and death are all by products of living in a fallen world. He is able to conquer all issues of life.
