The Priority of Intimacy with God
February 8th, 2026
2 Samuel 7
We will consider this Sunday God's Noble Purpose and His Wonderful Promise as well as David's humble prayer in response. We will, of course, consider the context of this chapter. However, my intent is to focus on our great and desperate need to guard our intimacy with Christ. Verse 18 tells us that,
"David went in and sat before the Lord".
I am of the strong opinion that God's Purposes, Plans and Promises can be thwarted by the pitfalls of this life when His People do not develop and protect their intimacy with Him.
Many struggle in this pursuit due to stubbornness and pride. Some struggle due to business and over scheduling. Some struggle simply because they are ignorant of what intimacy is and thus see no need for it in their walk with God. Most never develop intimacy because they do not see God as personal and involved with them. No connection breeds distance. Relationship distance breeds apathy and even contempt.
When we pray God is listening. When we worship God receives it. When we serve God sees it.
When we sin God is broken by it.
In Christ
